4) From what I think, Gameface has entered the competition in the field of Pop Punk by releasing your 2nd album “Three to Get Ready” from Dr. Strange Records. Many people call it a masterpiece and it established a definitive sound of Gameface. Introducing bass chords, guitar octaves, very emotional song. How did you reach to this style of music?
Thank you. I agree that album is a very emotional pop punk album. The songs came from the time following the death of our original drummer, Bob Binckley. It was a very difficult and emotional time for us – and that comes through in the songs. I think that being on Dr. Strange Records pushed us more towards the pop punk scene. We began playing bigger shows and with more pop punk bands. Musically, we were very influenced by a band called Ned’s Atomic Dustbin (they had two bassists and incorporated a lot of bass chords in their songs), and the raw emotion and lyrical depth of Jawbreaker. ‘Three To Get Ready’ was an epic album for us. I don’t think it is our best album, but it’s the one with the strongest emotional connection for fans.
5) The next release, which is also a great one, is “Cupcakes” EP in 1997. I had a chance to purchase it at Tower Records located my country town where I used live at that time and I am listening it intensively to this day. It is full of great songs including cover song of the psychedelic furs. Why did you cover this song? Did you like listening to New Wave too?
Yes, The Psychedelic Furs are another great new wave/power pop band! We all loved this band and we always liked doing cover songs from bands from outside the punk scene that we really admire. We have covered Candy, Cyndi Lauper, The Psychedelic Furs, Tom Petty, Elvis Costello, Jackson Browne, Morrissey and even Justin Timberlake!
6) It was said that there was a plan for Japan Tour at the year of “Cupcakes” release. But, it was cancelled. Would you be able to share with us the reason behind cancellation?
Honestly, I do not remember this. I’m sure that we had talked about wanting to tour Japan but I don’t think there were ever any real plans made until now.
